Capturing the Spirit: The Value of Animal Portrait Studies for Commissioned Art
As a Houston artist, I believe that art is a powerful tool for connection and joy, not just for creating commissions. From 2017 to 2018, I had the privilege of giving back to my community by teaching art classes at the Brookdale retirement home in Tomball, TX. It was a truly rewarding experience, and these sessions with my elderly students are some of my fondest memories.
We spent our time together experimenting with a variety of mediums, including watercolors, pencils, and acrylics, and tackled a range of subjects from realistic still-lifes and landscapes to portraits. We even ventured into more abstract forms with pour painting and collage art. The journey was not just about technical skill; it was about the joy of creation, the shared laughter, and the sense of community we built together.
Beyond the Canvas
These experiences remind me of the profound impact art can have on a person’s life, no matter their age. While I love creating beautiful custom paintings for my clients, sharing the gift of art with others is a passion I will always cherish.
